Las Salinas Grandes – Jujuy

Salinas Grandes is a salt flat located in the Argentine province of Jujuy or puna of northwestern Argentina.

With an extension of more than 12 thousand hectares, it is the third-largest salt flat in Latin America. This huge immense desert located at 4,000 meters above sea level is five and ten million years old when the basin was completely covered by water coming from a volcano.

To the south and east, these salt flats are separated from the Humahuaca Gorge by the Chañi mountain range, while to the north and west their limits become more diffuse in the salt puna desert.
